LITTLE PRINCES
 ARTFUL READERS CLUB
February 22, 2013

Ta Da! Announcing my February selection for the Art and Sole ARTFUL READERS CLUB... It's Conor Grennan's "LITTLE PRINCES: One Man's Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal."  Long title...not such a long book...long on storyline and appeal!!

Twenty-nine year old Conor Grennan's journey to war-torn Nepal started because he wanted a good pick-up line for the women he met...and volunteering at an orphanage in a country ravaged by war (2004) was an impressive anecdote. He never thought that this, at the beginning of his hedonistic trip around the world, would turn into his life's work.
"LITTLE PRINCES" is about abandoned children, child traffickers, poverty, starvation, reunions and wonderful caring people who dedicate their lives to saving those of children and families in distress, in the mountainous Nepal's most inaccessible villages.
Brilliantly written, conversational in tone, "LITTLE PRINCES" is informative as well as compassionate and humorous...but expect the unexpected. After all, Grennan is describing his work with children during uncertain times!
For the travel connoisseur, Conor's views of Nepal's scenic beauty stimulate the imagination; its lovely, welcoming people, the colorful festivals...its all in there. On the flip side of all that beauty and warmth, he doesn't hesitate to address the issues that hold the country back...the indigence, corruption, the caste system, the trafficking... evoking sympathy for those destitute villagers caught between the rebel army and the government... those who believe that their only way to save their children is to sell them to traffickers.
Conor Grennan risked his life to reunite many of these trafficked and abandoned children with their families and started a program dedicated to finding and rejoining kids with their lost families in Nepal's remote villages. His organization, called NEXT GENERATION NEPAL, has reconnected more than 350 families with children they feared were lost to them forever. Today, he and his wife and son live in the U.S., but he continues to oversee the organization.
I LOVED this book...found it inspirational. I highly recommend it as one of the more worthwhile, well-written books I've had the pleasure of reading!

Thanks for checking in...wishing to see you for my next post. Hope this posting finds you and yours healthy and smiling.

Hugs,
