THE HEART TURNS TO LOVE
February 7, 2014

Hi Folks!
Well, it's not Valentine's Day yet, but my thoughts for art have turned to love and the heart...like this one for SUNDAY POSTCARD ART paying tribute to a heart that's blue...
Here's a little LOVE graffiti for THE THREE MUSES...
Finally, for the TAKE A WORD art challenge blog, even the butterflies were flitting around a girl thinking of her love !!
Thank you for checking in...hope you're near your loved ones for the coming week... after all, it's almost Valentine's Day!

Have an enjoyable week.

MAYDAY...a call for worldwide awareness
(original graffiti by Shepard Fairey in New York City

A different way to look at May Day, May 1st! Shepard Fairey is a graphic artist and illustrator who started his career in social commentary with street art. You may know his work but not his name. This is by Shepard Fairey...

I wanted to use his MAYDAY piece (the introductory art in this posting,) because in today's troubled world, we need his call for heightened awareness. This piece of graffiti is a call for action against injustice and the many difficulties that exist in all  the political, environmental, economic and cultural arenas of our worldwide neighborhoods. It's  a distress signal...a sounding of the alarm! Fairey believes that if we stay silent, there's no hope...but if we make noise by putting our ideas out there in whatever way possible, then maybe we can make a change. Here's hoping...

Some fun art this week...I hope you and yours are well and my art will help to further lift your spirits :)

INSPIRATION AVENUE dressed up its artists in "high heels..."

TAKE A WORD asked to see something "beautiful..."

This piece combines the requests of three challenge blogs... COLLAGE OBSESSION requested art with "butterflies," the CRAZY AMIGOS wanted "crowns" and THREE MUSES asked for "hats, crowns, wings and things." I hope this satisfies all calls...

THINK MONDAY-THINK ATC challenged artists with a "crazy girls" theme. I flashed back to the introduction of THE BEATLES to the world... I was ONE of those crazy girls!!!!

Finally, Flicker's online art group, DIGITALMANIA asked artists to emulate the style of one Anastasiya Markovich. She's a Ukranian surrealist painter. This is one of hers...

This is mine...

Enjoy your weekend and early week...
Big Hugs...'til the next,

CELEBRATION OF PASSOVER
March 24, 2013

Jewish families celebrate emancipation of Israelites
Tomorrw is the first night of Passover for Jewish families throughout the world. The 8-day festival commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. The story unfolds as God sends Moses to the Pharoh with a request to release his slaves. Despite warnings and many devastating plagues, the Pharoh refused. So, God visited Egypt and eliminated all their firstborn. While doing so, HE spared the Children of Israel, "passing over" their homes, hence the name of the holiday. Pharoh's resistance was broken and he chased his former slaves out of the land. 600,000 adult males, plus many more women and children, left Egypt and began their trek to Mount Sinai and their lives as God's "chosen people..." so the story goes. Happy Passover to all those celebrating this time of family togetherness!!

Current art challenges suggest spring...
SUNDAY POSTCARD ART asked to see the colorful, whimsical butterfly...my butterfly started in the eye of a tiger:

TAKE A WORD remembered how much rain there is in the spring. They requested some umbrella art:

Finally, THE THREE MUSES challenge blog had participants flying balloons. I used an old photo of my grandchildren in this piece:
Here's wishing you a peaceful, productive week and a happy heart! See you next posting?

HOPE

HOPE is the word...

February 15, 2011

One of my online art groups, PAPER TRADERS, has announced its 2nd word  for our WORD PROMPT JOURNAL...it's HOPE. Our task was to create a journal page using stencils as part of the finished piece. I used 5 different stencils as part of the background. This is a mixed media piece. You can see other entries here. (Our 1st word was LOVE!)

Thanks for stopping by...
