FIRST POST: ARTFUL READERS
January 25, 2013
Hi Family and Friends,
Well, we're somewhat entrenched in the new year...I hope things are going well for you and that you've started to meet all those goals you set for yourself. One of my goals is to read even more than before, so, I've made a commitment to ART and SOLE's new club, ARTFUL READERS. (Last year, it was the weekly Postcard Art Challenge from different countries. Remember?)
At the end of each month, for the next year, I'll be posting some art representing a book I've read and will review the book as well. Perhaps it'll be something you've already read... or I'll offer a suggestion to read (or NOT read it!!!) Hope you'll check back at month's end to check it out!
My first book is one with which many are already familiar. I started reading it after having been in Poland for Christmas and visiting Auschwitz and Birkenau, Nazi Concentration/Death Camps. Here's my review, followed by my art representing THE BOOK THIEF by Marcus Zazak (published in 2005.)
Each book review and representitive art will go in my journal. If you've read THE BOOK THIEF, I hope it was a stand-out for you as it was for me. If you haven't...what are you waiting for????
Happy reading until my next review... see you for my next regular posting the beginning of February.
Thanks for stopping by. Had a wonderful haitus that I'll tell you about soon.
Hugs,
abbyj

Wow that sounds like a fantastic read, will definitely be putting this on my list! The artwork is also a fantastic representation of the book you describe!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read your book review next month!
I totally love your art! I have not read the book but it seems that the topic is a little too heavy and emotional for me. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Abby... The Book Thief is one of my all time favorites... loved it... glad you did too... and gorgeous artwork you created...
ReplyDeleteJenny ♥
I was just listening to a radio programme this lunchtime about the holocaust - it is remembrance week this week apparently, I didn't realise, so an appropriate time to read your review of this book.
ReplyDeleteI am not good with books that tug at the heartstrings like this, and tend to avoid them, but that way I am missing some stunning writing I am sure!
Is your artwork digital? it's very striking, an excellent representation of the book
I turn away from anything to do with WW2... Sorry, maybe I should try this book but mostly they make me feel so sad... Remember The Boy in Striped Pyjamas or something? Cried and slept bad for days...
ReplyDeleteI love your Art! It screams Emotion! ♥
The art you made looks appropriate to the subject matter, I love it! I have a hard time with books like this one, they make me depressed. It sounds like you enjoyed it though!
ReplyDeleteI apologise that I was not able to read the handwritten review, but your artwork illustrates a book that is a very emotional and heart-rending ride. Terrific artwork, very expressive.
ReplyDeleteYour figure behind the little girl makes me think of the moving, emotional drawings of Kathe Kollwitz, so another insight into what must be a harrowing read.
i have read it and you art going with it is well done, it fits the mood well..great pick
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed this book, I loved it and would def read it again. love your artwork, great drama and iconic images.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really interesting book and I've put it on a list of future books. That artwork is amazing, too. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI have read this book too and like you loved it. Your artwork is stunning and really does capture the book so well. Fabulous colours and great painting.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is one I should read but that would stay with me for a long time. Your art work is very evocative and powerful.
ReplyDeleteI have that book somewhere and I feel like looking for it right now. It is another book I bought and thought I will read it later now I guess would be a good time!
ReplyDeleteI love the art work very dramatic.
A wonderful review of a book that is definitely worth a read from this lapsed reader. It is on my list. Your artwork is stunning.
ReplyDeleteJanet xx
Wonderful artwork to go with this book. Good review and like you I think this is a must read book. It is beautifully written.

Your artwork is beautiful. Enjoyed reading your review about a book I hadn't read or heard of. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteSuch a powerful and impressive interpretation of 'the book thief'...it so conveys the mood of Zazak's novel.
ReplyDeleteWow that is such a powerful piece of art Abby! So dark and disturbing, yet fascinating to look upon! Nice job :D XXX
ReplyDeleteThe is a very powerful book and your artwork is a wonderful portrayal of that.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've heard of this book, I've never read it but it's now on the list :) Though I did do a journal page based on it for a circle journal last year (it was the recipient's favourite book). I love what you've done for your artwork and the colours you've used.
ReplyDeleteHi Abby ...my book club read this a couple of years ago...I will share your powerful painting with them at our next meeting. Wow. You captured it perfectly! What a great idea for a journal too!!!
ReplyDeleteI've read 11 of the books on the list to the right!
Did you ever read The Dovekeepers, tht I told you about last year????? About Masada...
I loved this book as well. Your artwork is fantastic and really captures the emotion of the book. I love your style of artwork and can't wait to see your pieces in the following months.
